Today we had to share the trailer for Mr Jones, a hugely powerful story directed by Agnieszka Holland and coming to UK cinemas in 2020, following a LFF Premiere on 6 October.
Bringing to the big screen the extraordinary story of the real-life Welsh journalist Gareth Jones (played here by James Norton), who uncovered Stalin’s genocidal famine in Ukraine, which killed almost 10 million. This is an important story to tell.
Set in 1933, Jones has already gathered attention after being the first foreign journalist to fly with Hitler. After leaving a government role, Jones travels to Moscow in an attempt to get an interview with Stalin himself. But after hearing rumours about the government-made famine, Jones goes undercover and travel to Ukraine, where he witnesses the atrocities first-hand.
This is sure to be intense work, watch the trailer:
Mr Jones also stars Vanessa Kirby and Peter Sarsgaard. In cinemas early next year, it’s premiering at the 2019 BFI London Film Festival on October 6.
