In honour of Day of the Girl 2021, an international event that takes place on 11 October that aims to raise awareness of the obstacles that girls all over the world face and to celebrate and reinforce their achievements, we’ve got an exclusive clip from the upcoming, must-watch documentary I Am Belmaya.

This moving insight features Belmaya, with her daughter on her birthday, and just a momentary flicker of the genuine everyday struggles she has to endure. This honest documentary highlights the power of a camera, the film documents Belmaya’s life-changing opportunity to express the personal difficulties she faces through filmmaking, with the help of director, and close friend, Sue Carpenter.

Made over 14 years, the documentary captures her fight for an education and opportunities for women in Nepal and highlights the challenges so many young women around the world face. Watch the clip below now:

I Am Belmaya celebrated its Premiere at Curzon Soho on 4th October, and is released in cinemas and on demand at Curzon Home Cinema and BFI Player from 15th October.
