For me, Apple TV+ are leading the way right now with original TV and shows you can really dig deep inside of, including the likes of Severance, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, Slow Horses, the funny and clever The Afterparty, plus the upcoming Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston-starrer The Essex Serpent also looks superb.
For now, we wanted to turn your attention to this first look at Black Bird, a 6-part show that promises to be a gritty, suspenseful six-episode psychological thriller developed by Dennis Lehane, that comes to Apple TV+ from 8 July, 2022. Adapted from true crime memoir “In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption” by James Keene and Hillel Levin, Black Bird is inspired by actual events, the series stars Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, Sepideh Moafi, Greg Kinnear and Ray Liotta, here’s your official synopsis:
When high school football hero, decorated policeman’s son, and convicted drug dealer Jimmy Keene (Egerton) is sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison, he is given the choice of a lifetime — enter a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane and befriend suspected serial killer Larry Hall (Hauser), or stay where he is and serve his full sentence with no parole. Keene quickly realizes his only way out is to elicit a confession and find out where the bodies of several young girls are buried before Hall’s appeal goes through. But is this suspected killer telling the truth? Or is it just another tale from a serial liar..?
Both lead actors feel perfectly placed for this type of setup, it’s going to be one crazy ride! The first three episodes are directed by Michaël R. Roskam, with the book’s author James Keene, Jim McKay and Joe Chappelle also directing. It comes to Apple TV+ from 8 July!
