Another fine 4K UHD release is on the way from Arrow Video, with their January release offering up the 1970s cult classic Carrie, starring Sissy Spacek as a telekinetic title character.
The new release of Carrie in 4K UHD (pre-order here) is restored in 4K from the original negative, and includes commentaries and visual essays, a wealth of interviews and archive featurettes, and comes in limited edition packaging, with a 40-page perfect bound book, a fold-out double-sided poster, six collector’s postcards!

It was originally Stephen King’s first novel in 1974, as we followed the story of Carrie White, bullied by her peers and daughter to a fanatical fundamentalist mother, who discovers she has telekinetic powers – and all this was brought to the big screen in 1976.
Carrie then marked Brian De Palma’s arrival as a major director, following smaller cult films such as Sisters, Phantom of the Paradise and Obsession, and provided a key early role for Sissy Spacek, one that would earn her a Best Actress nomination at the Academy Awards. Piper Laurie would also pick up a nomination as Carrie’s mother, while future stars such as Amy Irving, John Travolta and Nancy Allen were given their first major parts in a big-screen production.

With King’s eerie tale brilliantly realised by De Palma, featuring a virtuoso set-piece finale, and an oft-imitated shock ending that stills grabs the viewer, the film remains a masterclass in horror cinema.
