This is definitely a timely, and thought-provoking, trailer for new Focus Features and Dogwoof documentary, Every Body, from Director Julie Cohen as it explores the lives of intersex people.

Heading to UK cinemas on 15 December, Every Body tells the stories of three individuals who’ve moved from childhoods marked by shame, secrecy, and non- consensual surgeries to thriving adulthoods after deciding to set aside medical advice to keep their bodies a secret and instead came out as their authentic selves.

Intersex activists Sean Saifa Wall, River Gallo and Alicia Roth Weigel from Every Body

Actor and screenwriter River Gallo (they/them), political consultant Alicia Roth Weigel (she/they), and Ph.D. student Sean Saifa Wall (he/him) are leaders in a fast-growing global movement advocating for greater understanding of the intersex community and an end to unnecessary surgeries.

Cohen’s film promises to offer a compelling insight into the courage of living as one’s authentic self, when society is trying to force you to be somebody else, take a watch:

  1. Terrible to think doctors scare parents into maiming their children just because they are different. I saw a really good movie covering this topic and how tortured the intersex person and their parents are in feeling they have to “do something” other than let the child simply be.

    1. I’d like to hope that as we all move forward there’s less and less of trying to force any human into something who they’re either not, or don’t want to (or do want to be!) – and generationally it should adjust. I think the majority support that, there are always weird angry people but most people are happy if other people are happy 🙂

      1. I’d like to see it also, Dan. You’re more hopeful about the numbers of “weird angry people,” especially when they are serving or have been served kool-aid.
