We’re big fans of Brea Grant‘s work in the horror/thriller indie film world, starring in the likes of The Stylist (reviewed) and After Midnight (reviewed), and director of 12 Hour Shift (a personal favourite reviewed) and Torn Hearts, and so I’m more than happy to share her favourite films, taken from the Arrow Catalogue!

Firstly, an intro from Brea herself – and then a selection below:

“I am thrilled to be teaming up with ARROW to share some of my all-time favourite horror movies with you. From the delightful to the horrifying, these movies remind me of why I wanted to make movies in the first place (yes, including Basket Case).”*

Ringu

A group of teenage friends are found dead, their bodies grotesquely contorted, their faces twisted in terror. Reiko (Nanako Matsushima), a journalist and the aunt of one of the victims, sets out to investigate the shocking phenomenon, and in the process uncovers a creepy urban legend about a supposedly cursed videotape, the contents of which causes anyone who views it to die within a week – unless they can persuade someone else to watch it, and, in so doing, pass on the curse…

The Stylist

We all dream of being someone else… but for Claire (Najarra Townsend), that dream goes from an obsession to a living nightmare. Hairstylist by day, serial killer and collector of scalps by night, Claire’s lonely existence is thrown into turmoil when her regular client, Olivia (Grant), asks her to style her hair for her wedding day.

Increasingly fixated on Olivia’s seemingly flawless life, Claire vows to lock up her scalp collection and change her ways for good – only to discover that repressing your deadly desires is easier said than done…

The Leech

Father David (Graham Skipper), a Catholic priest struggling to fill the pews in his church, allows a homeless man, Terry (Jeremy Gardner), into his home to escape the December chill. But this simple act of kindness has unforeseen consequences when Terry’s pregnant girlfriend, Lexi (Taylor Gardner), also decides to crash at the parochial house.

Determined to save the warring couple through the healing power of God’s love, David’s ordered existence quickly unravels as he succumbs to the wicked ways of the parasitic pair. Will he pass this apparent test of faith or resort to blood-soaked, Old Testament justice?
