I’ve been a fan of Alex Garland‘s ideas and work since 1996’s The Beach, and he’s compellingly taken us through the likes of 28 Days Later, Ex Machina, and Annihilation in the years that have proceeded it, with a proper hit of originality and intrigue.

Next up is Garland’s Civil War, an unerringly fictional (yet almost possibly precedent) tale of an near-future fractured America balanced on the razors edge, starring Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman.
While there’s certainly a mass of remakes and nostalgic hits out there, and don’t get me wrong I do enjoy moments of it, there’s something so very important about original film-making and Garland deserves that opportunity for sure – check out the trailer:
