I found 2010’s TRON: Legacy entertaining, and a lot of that was helped by a killer soundtrack from Daft Punk. The original TRON film, from 1982, wasn’t really on my radar as a kid but it holds a strong support base – and you can see why as it always retains that futuristic fun.
Today, we’ve got the first look at TRON: Ares, the next installment in the franchise, in what must surely be one of the longest ‘trilogies’ of all-time? They’re selling it as the follow-up to the last two, which is fine by me, and we also know that the film started production last month in Vancouver, as they aim for a 2025 cinema release. Directing TRON: Ares is Joachim Rønning, who had this to say:
“I’m excited to be part of the TRON franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world. ‘TRON: Ares’ builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”
The feature film stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jared Leto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, with the excellent Gillian Anderson – here’s a little synopsis:
TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.
