In what’s not the biggest surprise, as I felt they always had this in their troubled, yet compelling, hands – and now it’s been confirmed that a Peaky Blinders film… is on the way!

Netflix are the backers, in association with BBC Film, which goes into production later this year – from the quotes from those involved, it seems like this will be an epic all-out-city-war, set on the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s.

Of course, Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby, the role he played over six seasons between 2013 – 2022, and the film is written by the show’s creator, Steven Knight, who co-produce alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy and Guy Heeley – with Tom Harper directing, who directed episodes in the first season in 2013.

The plot and further casting remain under wraps, but Knight had this to say:

I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war.”

Cillian Murphy added:

It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

Director Tom Harper said:

When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”

We’ll bring you the latest as soon as we hear on the Peaky Blinders film
