It’s quite safe to say that food is in favour right now, when it comes to factual and fictional TV shows – and it feels like we’re in a stunning place with both the celebration and understand of food culture, and appreciation of those who make amazing dishes, but it’s also clearly a time when we should know about where all our food comes from, and what we can do to preserve this historic cultures and traditions.

Created and narrated by chef René Redzepi, the co-owner of world-renowned restaurant Noma, the series Omnivore looks to take viewers on an immersive journey into the world of food, exploring the profound beauty and intricate complexities of the human experience through the key ingredients that connect us all.

Each episode promises to celebrate “the cultivation, transformation, and consumption” of eight of the world’s most essential ingredients, including banana, chile, coffee, corn, pork, rice, salt, and tuna.

Here’s the trailer:

Redzepi and exec producer Matt Goulding (Anthony Bourdain: Explore Parts Unknown) guide audiences on a globe-spanning journey that includes Bali, Colombia, Denmark, Djibouti, France, India, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, and Thailand, as well as locations throughout the US, and each episode is helmed by a different director to guide the ingredient’s journey, including Isabel Coixet, Drea Cooper, Nicola B. Marsh, Sami Khan, Collin Orcutt, David Charles Rodrigues, Rintu Thomas, and Mateo Willis.
