Luc Besson‘s Léon: The Professional is one of those films that instantly captured me, it’s depth and pure narrative surprise had me hooked in the mid-90s, and captures an excitement and essence of the perfect cinema-going experience.

Now, we get to revisit Besson’s action classic LEON, with a new collectable 4K 3-disc SteelBook, featuring two cuts of this remarkable film, thanks to STUDIOCANAL and GAUMONT from 3 December!

This will be both a definitive and strictly limited edition release of the highly influential film, starring Jean RenoGary Oldman and Natalie Portman in her film debut, it tells the tale of 12-year-old Mathilda (Portman), who lives with her family in a squalid New York apartment block.

After picking up some milk and groceries from her local shop, she returns home to discover her abusive, dysfunctional family (and beloved younger brother) have been slaughtered by a psychotic police officer (Oldman). In fear for her life, she chooses her only option, which is to knock on the door of her reluctant and solitary neighbour; Leon (Reno) – who’s in his secret life, is also a deadly assassin. And while Mathilda begins to teach him how to live, Leon begins to teach her how to survive…

It’s got so many great scenes, and has been emulated often since – so much so you’ll recognise moments in other films that followed amongst it – not forgetting expert cinematography by Thierry Arbogast, huge set pieces (never forgetting the storming of Leon’s apartment by “EVERYONE!” – trust me, you’ve seen the GIF), as well a fine score from Eric Serra.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

  • Both director’s cut and theatrical version of the movie
  • New Andre Labbouze, technical director – 10 min
  • New Thierry Arbogast, cinematographer – 20 min
  • New Sylvie Landra, film editor – 30 min
  • New Alain Kruger, journalist – 15 min
