I wasn’t sure what to expect from M3GAN, the 2023 dark comic horror, but it properly charmed me (read my review) with a very dark tale indeed, and I figured this setup would be too good not to return to, and here we are!
Also directed by Gerard Johnstone, and written by Akela Cooper, the murderous doll returns and this time, she’s not alone. Two years after M3GAN last went rogue on a deathly spree (alongside some timely choreography) and was destroyed, Alison Williams‘ Gemma (the creator) is a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. During this, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), is now a rebellious teenager, fighting against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Meanwhile, the tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around… of course! So, it’s time for the only one who can save us… M3GAN must return.
Here’s your first teaser, with the perfect Chappell Roan track included, with more to come!
The first M3GAN film shattered box office records, and went on to gross more than $180 million worldwide.
