You may remember the devasting real-life 2018 wildfire that completely wiped out four communities in Northern California’s Butte County, but if you don’t – or just wanted to know more – I highly recommend Ron Howard‘s 2020 documentary Rebuilding Paradise, read my review here, which recounts those life-changing events.

The Lost Bus, from Apple Original Films, looks set to an emotional, action-packed rescue drama that will take us inside one of America’s deadliest wildfires, as a school bus driver Kevin McKay (Matthew McConaughey) and school teacher Mary Ludwig (America Ferrera) battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.
Directed by Paul Greengrass, and inspired by the real-life scenario, he had this to say about making the film, and the teaser is just below, the film also stars Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson and Spencer Watson:
“The Lost Bus is the story of quiet heroism — of people coming together in the face of the unthinkable. I’m honored to have been entrusted with this story,”
The Lost Bus is written by Greengrass and Brad Inglesby and based on Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by Lizzie Johnson. The film is produced by Ingelsby, Gregory Goodman, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions, Jamie Lee Curtis for Comet Pictures, and executive produced by author Johnson. After hearing Johnson on NPR, Curtis read the book and brought the project to Blumhouse, where she has a first look deal.
