I may not know a huge amount about Jay Asher‘s best-selling book series 13 Reasons Why but I do feel a good buzz around it and that Tom McCarthy, the director of the excellent Spotlight, has put his talents behind this new Netflix original.

Created by Brian Yorkey, and exec produced by Selena Gomez, the 13-episode series follows teenager Clay Jensen (newcomer Dylan Minnette) who returns home to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by classmate Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On the tape, she explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Will he be one of them? He just has to listen…

Check out the teaser below and date announcement, it feels like it’s got a nice mysterious edge, let us know your thoughts if you fancy it…

13 Reasons Why launches globally via Netflix on Friday 31 March 2017.
