I absolutely adored Season 1 of Castle Rock, the 10-part psychological-horror TV series set in the title-named town that uses Stephen King’s multiverse of characters, in new and mysterious ways – check out my glowing review – and so we’re delighted to shared the news that Castle Rock: Season Two comes to DVD and Blu-ray on 27th July from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment!

Recently, when it returned to UK screens for Season 2, via the Starzplay streaming service (subscribe here for a free trial via Prime Video), I was very, very excited indeed. But, of course, did Season 2 step-up to the huge standards set by S1? Absolutely, and then some!

To stay away from spoilers, but head here if you’d like my reviews of Episode 1 and 2, Castle Rock Season 2 sees the introduction of a young Annie Wilkes (of Misery infamy) into the small town and what an incredible set of stories you have to come! Played magnificently by Lizzy Caplan, who honestly deserves an Emmy, you also get the return of Tim Robbins to the King-multiverse plus superb performances from the likes of Paul Sparks, Barkhad Abdi, Yusra Warsama, and the super-talented and upcoming Elsie Fisher. Here’s some official synopsis, if you’re looking for an inventive new series and love your mystery, thrillers and the unusual, this will be right up your street.

In season two, a feud between warring clans comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes (Caplan), Stephen King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in the small town of Castle Rock. Local businessman Reginald “Pop” Merrill (Robbins) is dragged into the fight as, when Pop’s nephew, legendary bully John “Ace” Merrill (Sparks), stirs up trouble. It’s another eerily unforgettable season of Castle Rock, as the mysterious town’s ongoing epic saga continues to unfold.

Created by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, the series is also a production collaboration between King and J.J. Abrams and is backed by Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. I really recommend S2 as much as the first outing and really hope we get to see what happens next in the King-verse, there’s so many stories that could be developed and if they continue to pull in the top class talent they do, Season 1 starred the likes of Andre Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy, Scott Glenn and everyone second-time around is great again. I feel like there could be more extras on the physical copy but as a series? I was captivated right up to the huge finale!
