Directed by Azazel Jacobs, and written by Patrick DeWitt, French Exit doesn’t appear to be what you might expect and this trailer really sets the scene for what’s surely an outstanding performance from Michelle Pfeiffer, who is bringing her A-game to the big screen.
French Exit focuses around Manhattan socialite Frances Price (Pfeiffer), who states early on that “[her] plan was to die before the money ran out…” but, of course, things haven’t gone as she’d hope. So while her husband has been dead for 12 years and the inheritance dwindled, she escapes to Paris in a borrowed apartment with her son Malcolm (Lucas Hedges) and their cat named Small Frank. What follows seems to be a journey of slight self-discovery but never in the lane of losing who she is, keeping a dry, direct wit and maybe the inklings of a sadness not fully realised, oh and it’s draped in dark reality.
