Oh my word, there’s hype, then there’s pure excitement, and this has layers and layers of both in bucketloads – and this is simply the teaser trailer!

Last Night in Soho is the new work from Edgar Wright, who directs and co-writes with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and this thrilling-looking mystery is already too far away, opening on 29 October from Universal Pictures. The lead duo of Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie are two of my favourite, super-talented young actors in recent years, with both always leaving their distinct mark on their roles, so everyone involved here is perfect.

Also co-starring Matt Smith, Terence Stamp, Diana Rigg, Rita Tushingham, Michael Ajao, Jessie Mei Li and Synnøve Karlsen, Wright’s psychological thriller follows McKenzie’s Ellie, who’s passionate in fashion design and mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol Sandy (Taylor-Joy), a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…
