There’s that fine line between melodramatic and character-led drama, and here we’re definitely in the ball park of the latter and there’s little doubt of the power in this trailer for A.V. Rockwell’s A Thousand And One, opening in UK cinemas from 21st April.

Definitely from the heart, Rockwell’s film is set over the formative years of her son’s life and will delve deeply into the character study as we follow free-spirited Inez (Teyana Taylor), who takes her six-year-old son Terry (Aaron Kingsley Adetola) from the foster care system. Holding onto their secret and each other, mother and son set out to reclaim their sense of home, identity, and stability, in a rapidly changing New York City….

Playing Terry as he grows older is also Aven Courtnet and Josiah Cross, and the film also stars Will Catlett and Terri Abney, here’s your trailer for the Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner:
