I don’t really like the phrase ‘guilty pleasure’ because it suggests you should take away the excellence of your enjoyment with said film/music/whatever, and lingers towards hiding your admiration for whatever medium you’re into. The Equalizer falls into this bracket for some, as it may not always be groundbreaking but, my word, it’s got Denzel Washington being pure DW. And I think these are somewhat underrated in the old-school thriller style, and with a lot of human essence.

The Equalizer 3 sees Denzel’s Robert McCall return for the last time, after giving life as a government assassin (as you do), his character is now struggling with the reality of his past, and finds himself somewhat of a vigilante and serving justice to those who can’t fight for themselves. Re-locating himself in Southern Italy, and enjoying his time, it isn’t long before his new friends reveal they’re under the thumb of a local crime racket and, well, it’s up to McCall to even things up.

Directed by the returning Antoine Fuqua, and written by Richard Wenk, the film also stars Dakota Fanning, David Denman and Andrea Dodero, and this recap vignette tells you all you need to know so far, but I’d recommend checking out the first two films anyway – and watch the full trailer for the new film by clicking here – it hits cinemas on 30 August:
