Now, I need to share the new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to gain other pondering souls…
Whilst I don’t dislike the trailer, I thought Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War of the Planet of the Apes were something else entirely. Genuine behemoths of social commentary entrenched with deep, dark (very) human emotion, following up astonishingly from Rupert Wyatt‘s also impressive Rise of the Planet of the Apes – almost completely disregarding the huge leaps and bounds in computer technology to get it out there.

While it’s good to see Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver return amongst the writing team, and Wes Ball taking on directorial duties, this is the first ‘Apes‘ film under the umbrella of Disney (since their acquisition of 20th Century) and while there’s clearly scale, there’s more than a similar rumbling of the 1968’s Planet of the Apes in what we’re first seeing. This might be purely trailer cut, to design a narrative, but when Reeves’ film created something vast and original, I hope this can do the same as they are trying to continue what began… but the odds of seeing the Statue of Liberty feel quite high!
Have a watch and let me know what you think:
The film stars the talents of Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy. The screenplay is by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison.
