Having gone on about True Detective as a series for quite some years now, although Season 2 was unfortunately forgettable, after the Mahershala Ali excellence in Season 3, I figured the ‘world’ of TD had come to a conclusion but I’m actually really glad to say, not yet!

True Detective: Night Country brings in Issa López as showrunner, writer, and director of all six episodes, and it stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis – coming to Sky Atlantic and NOW from 15 January 2024 – Your synopsis….

When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.

Alongside Foster and Reis, there’s co-starring roles for Finn Bennett, Fiona Shaw, Christopher Eccleston, Isabella Star LaBlanc, John Hawkes, Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson, and Joel D. Montgrand!

  1. Like you, loved S1 & S3 but not thrilled with S2. Of course I’ll be watching S4 asap. Have you ever watched “The Sinner” series with Bill Pullman as the detective each season with a whole new set of circumstances to investigate? If you like TD I am 99% sure you’d like this.

    1. Aah I have not, another for the list, like the idea of the setup though!

In a completely different vibe, Only Murders in the Building is sublime, just finished S3!

      1. OMITB, finished S3 last night! Oh So Good. They did a good job of not giving away the murderer. I also watched season finale of Reservation Dogs last night. One hella good show.

        1. Yees! And genuinely great performances all round, Streep showing her talent once again, also thought Rudd was class as well, just such a good cast.

  2. I’m really looking forward to this, especially because of Jodie Foster. I’m a big fan of the True Detective franchise. Interestingly, the first season is still the best.
