I like a stylish trailer, and although The Exorcist: Believer may have let us down there in the end, there’s the grand possibility of a bad Bill Nighy and undoubtedly something creepy in the works as we head to The First Omen.

From 20th Century Studios, this is definitely a chilling trailer and nicely realised for the upcoming psychological horror The First Omen. Directed by Arkasha Stevenson, this is a prequel to the classic horror film franchise, that opens 5 April 2024, exclusively in cinemas.

Based on the characters created by David Seltzer, with a story by Ben Jacoby, and a screenplay from Stevenson, Tim Smith and Keith Thomas, we begin in Rome where a young woman has been sent to offer a life of service to the church but, whilst there, encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate… of course.

The First Omen stars Nell Tiger Free, Tawfeek Barhom, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, and Bill Nighy, get your first look now:

  1. The story may be good, but unfortunately the trailer seems to have borrowed many scenes from previous horror successes.

    1. Fair ponder – it’s difficult with trailers at the best of times I’d think, as they need to sell it and people get pulled in by familiar moments (the common viewer does over people who go regularly), so intrigued to see!

What is said at the end of the trailer (it’s backwards)?

    1. Something very similar… to… “Look at me, Damien. It’s all for you.”

        1. Very! It’s difficult to judge this new/old films as so many go for shock value over depth, but I like their thoughts on the trailer – it’s an interesting take.

I enjoy your writing style and your reviews. I found you awhile ago through IMDB then Metacritic reading reviews of movies and TV.
I grew up reading my local movie critic, Mick LaSalle and boy does he have some interesting takes!
Going to see Drive-Away Dolls Wednesday any takes on the new E. Coen film?
Way to go deciphering that backwards speech Dan!

    1. Thanks so much, Jim – nice to hear positives!

And, as for the new Coen film, I’m definitely intrigued but not sure if it’ll be quite as sharp as the duo make it, but willing to give it a shot. The trailer is cut a little ‘coenesque’ but I wonder if it’s a little different (in a good way)? Will be interesting to witness!
