Watch: First teaser trailer for The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power now!

Do you recall that it was November 2017 that Amazon Studios first announced their The Lord of the Rings TV series was in production? Originally planned for 2020, this multi-season production was obviously delayed for reasons but also because they’ve clearly been spending time developing, and moulding, what’s sure to be one of the first genuinely epic shows we’ve seen in the modern era.

Like many, I’m been apprehensive over whether Prime Video could emulate Peter Jackson‘s iconic trilogy, from J.R.R. Tolkien‘s legendary work, but I really loved the title work they released – which showed their commitment to physical effects – and now The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will offer us the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history from 2 September, 2022!

Led by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with episodes directed by Wayne Che Yip, J.A. Bayona and Charlotte Brändström, I’m also loving the fresh cast that includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

Watch your teaser now, and check out all the posters below!

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Showrunners Payne and McKay also had this to say:

“What we love about Tolkien is that he hits all the notes from strong intensity to pure enjoyment and our goal is to bring that same emotional experience through this series. This show is an opportunity for us to go deeper with a bigger and blank canvas, showing an adventure in Middle-earth that has never before been brought to the screen. There are many characters and stories to cover and, this teaser gives viewers a taste of what is to come.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power comes to Prime Video globally on 2 September, 2022.
