First look at Saoirse Ronan in Nora Fingscheidt’s The Outrun

Adapted from Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir of the same name, The Outrun stars Saoirse Ronan as Rona who, fresh out of rehab, returns to the wild Orkney Islands after more than a decade away, and we’ve got the first look today.

Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, the multi award-winning director of System Crasher, STUDIOCANAL are set to bring this to the big screen and, as well as an vivid interest in Ronan’s projects, this really sounds like an intriguing journey as we follow Rona, who begins to reconnect with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, and during this process, memories of her childhood merge with the more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery.

Here’s your first look:

The Outrun also stars Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) and Stephen Dillane (Alex Rider), it was optioned by Brock Media’s Sarah Brocklehurst, who is developing and producing alongside Ronan, Jack Lowden and Dominic Norris under their recently founded banner, Arcade Pictures.

BBC Film and Screen Scotland supported development of the project and are funding production alongside MBK Productions. Funding is also provided by FFA, Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg, MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, and Film and Medienstiftung NRW.

We’ll bring you all the latest on The Outrun as we hear it.
