I was a huge fan of 1997’s The Full Monty, not just because it’s set in Sheffield and we’ve got loads of love for the city, but also because it felt grounded, as well as relevant and funny, and deservedly became one of those classic British films that’s easy to revisit.
Today, and I’d say unexpectedly, we’ve got the first trailer for the new Disney+ series of The Full Monty, an all-new 8-part escapade, and it’s definitely got the feeling of that original, which was so important. Somehow, it’s been 25 years now and it’ time to revisit the lives of those same old band of brothers as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield, and society’s crumbling healthcare, education, and employment sectors. Interesting times indeed, considering ‘everything‘ right now.
Original screenwriter Simon Beaufoy returns, joined by co-writer Alice Nutter, and it hits the streaming platform on Wednesday 14 June, here’s your trailer:
As you’ll see, returning as Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Wim Snape and Tom Wilkinson. Newcomers includes Talitha Wing, Paul Clayton, Miles Jupp, Sophie Stanton, Phillip Rhys Chaudhary, Dominic Sharkey, Natalie Davies, Arnold Oceng, Aiden Cook and Tupele Dorgu.
