We’ve come a long way since 1968’s Planet of the Apes and while that movie is a classic, Rupert Wyatt‘s 2011 Rise of the Planet of the Apes unexpectedly re-invented not only the saga but also the use of technology within modern films. They’ve created apes that look so realistic, you don’t even question what you’re watching and this new clip from War for the Planet of the Apes takes that re-imagining further and looks phenomenal.
This small feature/clip focuses in on the discovery of young human Nova (Amiah Miller), as she first meets Caesar (Andy Serkis) and is ‘adopted’ by Maurice (Karin Konoval) as the Apes set out on their quest. Maurice blows my mind because he’s simply real, it’s natural now as Matt Reeves returns to the Ape-world after also directing 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
In this third outing for Caesar, he’s forced into a deadly conflict with his Apes against an army of humans led by Colonel, played by Woody Harrelson. The apes suffer unimaginable losses, and Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.
