Writer/Director John Carney has certainly found his niche with music-based, hopeful films that often keep it simple, yet just on the right side of clichéd or overly saccharine, with such films as Sing Street, Once, Flora and Son and Begin Again under his belt over the past 15 years or so.

Next up is a big-named Power Ballad, a film insisting on being a feel-good story about self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition, that circles a whole lot of music – of course! Starring Paul Rudd as Rick, a past-his-prime wedding singer, who meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) and the two bond over music and a late-night jam session.

But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about….

Power Ballad is co-written by Carney with Peter McDonald, and the film also stars McDonald, Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu, and Jack Reynor – Check out the trailer below!
