There’s little doubt that David Lowery invests in a visual journey, the director previously brought us A Ghost Story and The Green Knight, and now takes us on a trip fuelled by music and psychological unrest – with a slight hint of Black Swan in its vibe, in the most interesting way.

With a killer cast, led by Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, and also starring Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Sian Clifford, and FKA Twigs – your sypnopis is as follows:

Long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary (Hathaway) reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance.

This generation of films is increasingly cross-colab happy, and A24 continue to take exciting gambles, so with a clear pop-centric approach, mixed in with a noticably orchestrated modern style – as well as original songs from Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff and FKA Twigs no less.

The killer trailer is below, plus head here for the Anne Hathaway-performed My Mouth is Lonely for You (& also Burial) song, featured in the film and part of The Mother Mary: Greatest Hits album, that you can also pre-order here!

Mother Mary comes to UK and Irish cinemas from 24 April
