Luc Besson’s Leon is undoubtedly one of my all-time Top 5 films, if not at the very top for many, many years. If you’ve never seen it, then this is the perfect time to change that as the 25th Anniversary Director’s Cut version comes to Blu-ray, DVD and 4K UHD this 11th November and this is a movie you need in your collection!
The sheer level of influence and inspiration of Leon on endless crime thrillers since its release in 1994 cannot be understated and with a cast that includes Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman, who was only 12 years-old at the time, is one of the finest films ever made. This version has also been restored to stunning 4K, so you can fully enjoy this visually stylish, graphically violent and intensely emotional film to its core. Leon contains career-defining performances and stands up as one of the top action thrillers of all-time.
Mathilda (Portman) is only 12 years old, but is already familiar with the dark side of life: her abusive father stores drugs for corrupt police officers, and her mother neglects her. Leon (Reno), who lives down the hall, tends to his houseplants and works as a hired hitman for mobster Tony (Danny Aiello). When her family is murdered by crooked DEA agent Stansfield (Oldman), Mathilda joins forces with a reluctant Leon to learn his deadly trade and avenge her family’s deaths.
