
After its successful debut season last year, His Dark Materials returns for its second outing, this time adapting the second of Philip Pullman‘s beloved novels, The Subtle Knife. The Magisterium take action on past events. Lee Scoresby (Lin-Manuel Miranda) embarks on a mission. The episode is written by Jack Thorne, directed by Jamie Childs, and will air Monday 16th November on HBO in the US, and Sunday 8th November on BBC One in the UK.
Episode 2: The Cave sees Lyra (Dafne Keen) and Will (Amir Wilson) head to Oxford for answers. The Magisterium is faced with a choice. The episode is written by Jack Thorne and Francesca Gardiner, directed by Jamie Childs, and is expected to air on Monday 23rd November on HBO in the US, and Sunday 15th November on BBC One in the UK.
Episode 3: Theft sees Lyra (Dafne Keen) ignore the alethiometer’s advice, leading to dangerous consequences. The episode is written by Jack Thorne and Sarah Quintrell, directed by Leanne Welham, and is expected to air on Monday 30th November on HBO in the US, and Sunday 22nd November on BBC One in the UK.
Episode 4: Tower of Angels sees Will (Amir Wilson) and Lyra (Dafne Keen) make a plan, unaware of the dangers or the cost involved. The episode is written by Jack Thorne and Namsi Khan, directed by Leanne Welham, and is expected to air on Monday 7th December on HBO in the US, and Sunday 29th November on BBC One in the UK.
Episode 5: The Scholar sees Will (Amir Wilson) and Lyra (Dafne Keen) set out to retrieve what’s been lost. Mary (Simone Kirby) takes a leap of faith. The episode is written by Francesca Gardiner, directed by Leanne Welham, and is expected to air on Monday 14th December on HBO in the US, and Sunday 6th December on BBC One in the UK.
