I’ve seen a couple of teasers for this crazy beast already, so now it’s time to share in the revelry, just in case someone out there hasn’t! Whalefall is based on the book of the same name by Daniel Kraus, and certainly looks like an ‘epic and emotional’ thriller that takes us on the underwater journey of one young man’s encounter with a huge whale deep in the big blue.

A diver in a wetsuit holding a glowing blue object in a dark, underwater cave environment.

Directed by Brian Duffield, with a screenplay by Duffield and Kraus, the story follows Jay (Austin Abrams) who, following the death of his father Mitt (Josh Brolin), heads out scuba diving off the central Coast of California in search of his remains, but is swallowed by a massive sperm whale (!) Trapped inside, with just an hour of oxygen left, can he use the wisdom imparted on him to escape? Watch the trailer for more:

The film also stars Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd – one for for the big screen? Sure feels like it!

Whalefall, from 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment’s opens exclusively in cinemas 16 October
