Wild Rose star Jessie Buckley joins Black Deer Festival 2019 bill!

It’s with great joy to share the news that Jessie Buckley, star of the superb Wild Rose (Read our 5-star review) that’s out now in UK cinemas, has been added to the huge bill for this years Black Deer Festival at Eridge Park in Kent.

Buckley will be performing the beloved songs from the films’ soundtrack such as Primal Scream’s ‘Country Girl’ and legendary country artists Emmylou Harris‘Born To Run’ at the festival. Gritty, inspirational and heartwarming, Wild Rose embodies country music in its purest form with Buckley’s character Rose-Lynn Harlan seeking out understanding and belonging as a modern-day outlaw. Being an early 2019 favourite of ours at Critical Popcorn, we agree with Black Deer’s belief that the film resonates with the ethos and aesthetic of the festival, and stands as yet another testament to the UK’s growing feelings towards the immersive lifestyle and genre.

On Jessie Buckley’s appearance at Black Deer, co-founders and promoters Gill Tee and Deborah Shilling commented…

“We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome the wonderful Jessie Buckley to Black Deer Festival. The music and culture this festival celebrates is rooted in authenticity and spirit and Jessie’s powerhouse performance in Wild Rose has this in spades. Country and Americana has never been more relevant and we’re delighted that Wild Rose is shining a light on the amazing singer/songwriters out there. There’s something very real about this music and it needs to be heard.”

Serving as the UK’s ultimate destination for Americana and Country fans, the multi-award winning festival will return to the stunning Eridge Park, set in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, a location only 50 minutes away from London and we absolutely loved their debut year in 2018 – read more here!
