Watch: Fascinating trailer for Hitchcock doc ’78/52′ that dissects the Psycho shower scene

78/52 is a new documentary from Alexandre O. Philippe that takes a deeper, direct look at that iconic shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock‘s Psycho which, quite truthfully, changed cinema and the way we see it forever, and this first trailer for Dogwoof’s upcoming release is excellent.

The title, 78/52, refers to the 78 setups and 52 cuts from the choreographed two-minute shower sequence that really ripped apart the definition of horror and what we’d accept to watch in the comfort of the cinema. Hitchcock twisted his own structures by killing off the heroine earlier than anyone could have expected and in that moment, without a justification of the murder, shocked and enthralled audiences in equal measure.

The documentary analyses the scene in-depth with a breakdown shot-by-shot examination but also features film lovers and makers alike to share the love, with the likes of Elijah Wood, Jamie Lee Curtis, Guillermo del Toro, Bret Easton Ellis, Karyn Kusama, Eli Roth, and Peter Bogdanovich sharing their views. 78/52 opens in the UK on 3rd November.
