Warner Bros release special Blu-rays for Bogart’s The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep

It’s superb news that Warner Bros are releasing two Humphrey Bogart classics, The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep on Blu-ray, as part of their Premium Collection on 6 November.

Both these films are true classics and, to be honest, if you haven’t discovered them yet in a film exploration, then they’re definitely worth picking up. The Maltese Falcon was nominated for 3 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Supporting Actor (Sydney Greenstreet) and Screenplay (John Huston), and catapulted Bogart to stardom and launched Huston’s directorial career. If you don’t know about it, here’s the synopsis below and all the extras are listed if you scroll down:

A gallery of high-living lowlifes will stop at nothing to get their sweaty hands on a jewel-encrusted falcon. Detective Sam Spade (Bogart) wants to find out why – and who’ll take the fall for his partner’s murder. An all-star cast (including Greenstreet, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre and Elisha Cook Jr.) joins Bogart in this crackling mystery written for the screen (from Dashiell Hammett‘s novel) and directed by John Huston.

The second is The Big Sleep, this Bogart and Lauren Bacall classic stars the legendary actor as L.A. private eye Philip Marlowe who takes on a blackmail case. Raymond Chandler‘s legendary gumshoe solves it in hard-boiled style – and style is what The Big Sleep is all about. Director Howard Hawks serves up great encounters (particularly those of Bogart and Bacall) and gorgeous atmosphere throughout. Full extras listed below!

These new collections offer you the film on Blu-ray, DVD and a Digital Copy, so you can watch it as you please. Each release also includes a collectible slipcase and 4 collectible art-cards featuring the films key art and 3 lobby cards style stills.
