New episodes of New Amsterdam coming to Amazon Prime this month

I’ve been a huge fan of New Amsterdam, the hospital drama that’s tremendously different from your everyday medical stories, and so I’m delighted to share the news that new episodes launch on Amazon Prime from 15th May.

If you haven’t managed to watch it yet, and you’re on the lookout for something that’s both heartfelt and funny with a whole twist of truth, then New Amsterdam is definitely your bag. It’s got those edges of the classic ER (character wise) but also a bit of Sorkin-like The Newsroom but, of course, it’s also full of its own narrative beauty and sadness.

Starring Ryan Eggold and Freema Agyeman, it’s based the best-selling book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer and his fifteen years as Medical Director at the hospital, Eggold stars as Dr Max Goodwin, Janet Montgomery as Dr Lauren Bloom, Agyeman as Dr Helen Sharpe, Jocko Sims as Dr. Floyd Reynolds, Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor and Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome.

Inspired by the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map.
