If you know me at all, you’ll know I love the Watchmen graphic novel but, also, I actually really enjoyed Zack Snyder‘s 2009 version but that’s mainly because he, pretty much, recreated the original via a storyboard and – thankfully – got it right in that respect.
While I was initially unsure about a TV series, this IS HBO and this first proper trailer looks absolutely epic. While I’m still not convinced about a Rorschach ‘army’ – Come on, what a unique individual character – you can see why he’d probably inspired Damon Lindelof, in a twisted way, for this version. He’s promised a ‘remix’ of the classic Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons story for the forthcoming adaptation, and with a score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, let’s hope this is something pretty dark, and decent.
One last thing, how exceptional does Regina King look already?! Watch the trailer now, and let us know what you think in the comments below. There’s no official release date yet but we suspect the end of 2019 is a good shot:
“Watchmen takes place in an alternative, contemporary reality in the United States, in which masked vigilantes became outlawed due to their violent methods. Despite this, some gather around in order to start a revolution while others are going out to stop it before it is too late, as a greatly wide question levitates above them all; who watches the Watchmen?”
HBO’s Watchmen also stars Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard
