(From L-R): Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson and Roman Griffin Davis.
The wonderfully unique Writer/Director Taika Waititi, looks set to bring his signature style of humour and style to his latest film, Jojo Rabbit, a World War II satire. Following young German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo), we witness the transition of his world after he discovers his single mother (portrayed by Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (played by Thomasin McKenzie) in her attic.
Based on the novel Caging Skies by Christine Leunens, the film looks like it finds that fun silliness that Waititi enables in his films but let’s not forget the heart at the centre of it as well, because that definitely feels like it’s here as well. In Jojo Rabbit, the young lad is also aided by an idiotic imaginary friend, who just happens to take the shape of Adolf Hitler (Also played by Waititi), I feel like only Taika could find this and adapt this kind of story and do it smartly.
Watch the trailer below now and let us know what you think, the film comes to UK cinemas on 1st January and also plays at the BFI London Film Festival on 5th October:
