The show follows Judge Michael Desiato (Cranston) as he treads carefully through a high-stakes game of deceit and impossible choices after his teenage son, Adam (Hunter Doohan), is involved in a hit-and-run incident. Unbeknownst to Adam, the victim is the son of much-feared crime boss Jimmy Baxter (Michael Stuhlbarg) and his wife, Gina (Hope Davis), who might well be even more dangerous than her husband.
The series also stars Carmen Ejogo, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Sofia Black-D’Elia, alongside the talent of Maura Tierney, Amy Landecker, Margo Martindale, Lorraine Toussaint, Chet Hanks, Lamar Johnson and Lilli Kay.
