Interesting timing, in the best way, for Y: The Last Man graphic novel to be getting its series adaptation, and it’s very welcome indeed. Heading to Disney+ from 22 September, the first three episodes will be there and then there’s a new one every Wednesday!
Based on the series created by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, this DC Comics world takes us inside the planet after a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome, but for one cisgender man and his pet monkey. From there, we follow the women who are the only survivors in this new world, as they try to to restore what was lost and endeavour to grasp the opportunity to build something better. Originally a 60-issue science fiction comic book series, beginning back in 2002, it received three Eisner Awards, and was nominated for the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story for Y: The Last Man, Volume 10.
The impressive ensemble cast features Diane Lane as Congresswoman Jennifer Brown, Ashley Romans as Agent 355, Ben Schnetzer as Yorick Brown, Olivia Thirlby as Hero Brown, Amber Tamblyn as Kimberly Campbell Cunningham, Marin Ireland as Nora Brady, Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann, Elliot Fletcher as Sam Jordan and Juliana Canfield as Beth Deville.
