There’s an impressive wealth of strong, homegrown-inspired psychological horrors out in the ether right now, films that reinvent the classic horror trope with craft and precision, and Charlotte Colbert‘s She Will looks set to continue that trend, if this new trailer from Vertigo Releasing is something to judge it by.
Coming to cinemas from 22nd July, Colbert co-wrote the film alongside Kitty Percy, She Will explores the tale of Veronica Ghent (Alice Krige) who, after a double mastectomy, goes to a healing retreat in rural Scotland with her young nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt). Whilst there, and after her surgery, the escape to the wilderness begins to open up questions over her very existence, which in turn leads her to question and confront traumas from the past….
Interestingly, the film is presented by horror legend Dario Argento (Suspiria, Inferno) who has called the film “an excursion into the world of witchery, madness, dreams, which together create an intoxicating atmosphere.” – high praise indeed, watch the trailer now:
As well as winning the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival, for Best First Feature, it also features an original score from Clint Mansell, who’s perfectly entwined with the sound of the atmospheric and psychological in his compositions, proven in his works for the likes of Moon, High Rise, Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream.
Very welcomingly, Mercury KX will release the official soundtrack digitally on 15th July, alongside the film’s theatrical release, followed by pink vinyl on 5th August. You can listen here now!
Female-led and female-focused, this psychological horror also co-stars Malcolm McDowell, Rupert Everett, Jon McCrea and Amy Manson. She Will was produced by Jessica Malik and Bob Last, and executive produced by Edward R. Pressman, Sam Pressman, Ed Clarke, Sam Cryer, Hannah Leader, Thorsten Schumacher and Sara Woodhatch.
