I’ve been a fan of David Harbour for a while now, even before the behemoth of Stranger Things, with great performances in the likes The Newsroom, Revolutionary Road, End of Watch and you might remember him in Brokeback Mountain – he’s got the talent to play both sides of the good/evil spectrum – and now he’s taking on the ultimate character: Father Christmas!
But these things come with a big twist, as you might have guessed from the title, Violent Night isn’t your usual Santa Claus because he’s pushed to the edge to save a family on Christmas Eve and by all the ways you can think, this is Die Hard but literally with a full-on Christmas connection. When a team of mercenaries breaks into a family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (Harbour) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint…
Sure, it’s breaking his naughty or nice rule in every respect, but this does look fun – and brutal – if you’re up for something a little bit different. It’s also from the producers of Nobody, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Bullet Train, so check it out now:
