With a screenplay from Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, Olivia Wilde directs this entertaining-looking comedy-drama, The Invite, that does echo a few similar setups but has a great benefit of an impressive ensemble cast.

Based on the 2020 Spanish film by Cesc Gay, this version also stars Wilde as Angela, who’s in a relationship with Joe (Seth Rogen), and they’re going through a rough patch. While their coupledom is teetering on the edge, and tonight might be the night when everything falls apart, the upstairs neighbours (played by Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton) then arrive for dinner, and everything that can go wrong goes worse….
