Despite this film, Primetime, being based on a true story, that of the origins of the American reality show To Catch a Predator, it wasn’t something I knew much about until watching this trailer.
This biopic is based on the host of that show, Chris Hansen, and how the show he hosted reshaped television as it took on and exposed online sexual predators, directly on camera, by setting up men who’d arrive at a sting house to have sex with minors, and then get arrested on TV.

Lance Oppenheim directs, with his narrative feature debut, and under the A24 bracket gets a chance to see if his documentary work can also be brought to life in a feature film sense. I was a fan of his Some Kind of Heaven – a documentary about a huge retirement town in Florida, which interestingly had a little The Truman Show vibe, and the teaser trailer here echoes that but, of course, with a whole different level of intensity!
Starring Robert Pattinson as the To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen, the film also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, Bokeem Woodbine, Phoebe Bridgers, Sean Bridgers, Anna Faris, Jonathan Lipnicki – here’s that first look:

“You see how this looks, right? At the end of the day, man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Do you agree? Do you watch television? Well, there’s something you should know. I’m Chris Hansen. This is To Catch a Predator of Dateline NBC and you’re about to be a part of television history. We’re going to be the number one show on TV.”
