This era is particularly enamoured with a deep desire for the ‘Director Cut’, and while that doesn’t necessary mean something better (choose your own recent social obsession for one you can connect), it does mean we get a little insight into the filmmaking process, assuming they didn’t have the final cut privileges – and that’s only likely at the top level with Spielberg.
As an avid The X-Files fan, from the original UK run in the 90s let it be known, I often find myself enjoying the lore of Mulder and Scully and while there’s definitely an equal amount of love and dislike for The X-Files: I Want to Believe, I never minded its unusual scope of strange metaphysical explorations, with dark, nevertheless human themes.

While the original cut of The X Files: I Want to Believe was supposedly too dark and scary for cinemas, nearly 20 years later we’re getting our first look into Chris Carter’s original vision, from the story he co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz, with an extra-long title as well: The X-Files: I Want to Believe — Vrach Frankenshteyn!
This is, because, the story itself is a contemporary take on Dr. Frankenstein, and reportedly this new cut dials up those horror elements and we’ll get to find out on Disney+ and Hulu this 14th August! I am intrigued, and to be honest I’ll always enjoy revisiting the timeless duo, played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, now and forever more. Here’s your trailer:
I’ll also be keeping an eye out for Ryan Coogler’s reboot, starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, and will bring you official news as and when that’s released.
