The football’s back! As much as I like the escapism of major tournaments like the World Cup or a European Championship, there’s nothing quite like the football season ‘proper’ once it gets underway for another season of highs, lows and questionable on-field decisions.

In the UK, the Premier League has kicked off this weekend, with the other 72 underway in the previous week, and with ideal timing Prime Video have announced Lineker (working title), a 4-part docuseries telling the remarkable story of the legendary footballer-turned-broadcaster’s 50-year career. 

Lineker will launch exclusively in 2027 worldwide and filming is underway as we dive (or don’t!) into the life of one of England’s original football icons. And Gary is somewhat of a unique picture at that, as his life has gradually become part of British culture across football, television and politics – from Mr. Nice Guy on the pitch to an outspoken figure off it, sparking national debate and dividing opinion in the process.  

Lineker promises to share the definitive story of Gary’s life and career with archive and unseen personal material, from his childhood in Leicester to emerging as a footballing superstar, before becoming a renowned broadcaster, entrepreneur, podcaster and more. At the heart of the series will be candid insights and reflections from the man himself as he shares his journey for the first time in unfiltered, honest interviews which delve into the truth behind the headlines with a host of family, fellow footballers and far more.

Lineker is produced by Orchard Studios, and executive produced by Nat Lippiett and Dan Grabiner, and comes to Prime Video in 2027
