It wasn’t that long ago that I remember watching Jonah Lomu, a true mountain of a man and rugby player! If you’re new to learning about the New Zealander, it’s fair to say he was one of rugby’s first global stars, a player who was an absolute game-changer with a unique combination of size, power and speed who became the All Blacks‘ youngest ever player and a cultural icon.

With that in mind, Dogwoof, Sylver Entertainment and Velvet Moss have announced the UK theatrical release of Lomu, a new documentary telling the extraordinary untold story of the icon himself. With a London Premiere at the London Breeze Film Festival taking place on 3rd September, Lomu will be in UK and Irish cinemas for one night only on Monday 7th September.
Directed by Irish filmmaker Gavin Fitzgerald and Tongan-New Zealander Vea Mafile’o, the film has unprecedented access to Lomu’s family and archives to give an intimate and heartfelt character study tracing his Tongan upbringing, meteoric rise to fame, and the complicated personal and health battles he faced at the pinnacle of world rugby.
