With Dunkirk and Churchill both opening in 2017, it seems like it’s an interesting year for WWII biopics and so with the announcement that The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society has begun filming, let us offer you a little more information on what this new film starring Lily James, Michiel Huisman, Glen Powell and Matthew Goode is all about.
Based on the best-selling book by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows‘ epistolary novel of the same name, and directed by Mike Newell, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society stars Lily James as journalist Juliet Ashton who forms a bond with a secret book society formed during German occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII.
I’d expect them to eventually rename it Guernsey, for the sake of many things, and Four Weddings director Newell will direct from a screenplay by Don Roos, Kevin Hood and Tom Bezucha. The film also stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Tom Courtenay and Penelope Wilton.
Guernsey is set to be released in 2018 from StudioCanal.
