If you know me at all, then you’ll know I love my music as much as my film – I started out in album reviewing some 15 years ago or so, and so this sounds deeply intriguing, and this era was pretty special for a unique flavour of sounds bursting out of New York!
Meet Me In The Bathroom promises to be an immersive journey through the New York music scene of the early 2000s, featuring never-before-seen footage of iconic artists including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Interpol and LCD Soundsystem. Set against the backdrop of 9/11, the film tells the story of how a new generation kick started a musical rebirth for New York City that reverberated around the world.
Inspired by the book by Lizzy Goodman, the doc is put together with a smorgasbord of archives, from audio and visual personal insight from the featured artists, found footage, DV tapes from New York music fans and more. Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, filmmakers behind the likes of Shut Up And Play The Hits and Blur: No Distance Left to Run, have brought together this treasure trove of interviews, live performances and home recordings to capture the names, faces, voices and atmosphere of a pivotal time and place in modern music history.
