Over the years, I’ve loved following the filmography of directors like Christopher Nolan, Edgar Wright, and Denis Villeneuve, to name a selection, and Gareth Edwards is one of those filmmakers who I’ve been impressed with since 2010’s Monsters, right through 2014’s Godzilla, the outstanding Rogue One from 2016 and now this new venture, The Creator, looks set to be another unique adventure.
Today, we get a first look and trailer for The Creator, from 20th Century Studios, New Regency and Entertainment One, and it’s certainly got all the vibes for an epic sci-fi action thriller, when it opens in cinemas on 29 September. Starring John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles and Allison Janney.

Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.
